After so many years working with Agile teams, I’ve noticed a pattern. Many professionals practice Agile daily but rarely step back and ask: Am I doing this right? Mostly because we learned Agile on the job, inherited existing processes, or picked things up from colleagues without any real foundation.
That’s why we keep asking questions like:
Why is the Scrum Master not managing the team?
How can the customer play the Product Owner role when they have zero prior experience?
Should the customer be part of our Stand-up meetings?
Are our ceremonies adding value or simply adding hours?
Can I push back on new requirements during a Sprint, and how?
Are we delivering meaningful outcomes, or just pushing JIRA tasks?
Is there another Agile framework that fits the way my team works?
My teams aren’t co-located—can we still be Agile?
I put together the Agile Field Guide to address exactly this.
I’ve kept the read light and a bit fun, adding a few popular memes without diluting the content. At its core, it’s a concise refresher on the fundamentals: the principles that matter, what each role actually means, common pitfalls, and when to consider Kanban, XP, Lean, or DSDM instead of Scrum. It also covers scaling approaches like SAFe, LeSS, and Nexus for teams working across multiple groups.
There’s a solid self-assessment quiz at the end, with answers and explanations, to help you check your understanding and spot gaps.
If you’ve wanted to revisit the basics with a clearer perspective, I hope this helps. And if you’re new to Agile, this can easily be your first book.
