Kurestin wants to work with creators who are creatively ambitious, who have a whole boatload of ideas and are always pushing themselves to write what’s most interesting and challenging to them; these are the people that are always growing and writing stories that only they can tell. She wants to work with stories that remind her of what she’s always loved about books while also showing her something she never could have predicted; she loves to be surprised by books.
Her main focus is genre fiction (so speculative in some way) but she enjoys stories that range widely across that spectrum. For younger readers, she prefers books that make her laugh, but even for adults, she likes there to be a light somewhere in the darkness. For graphic novels, she’s more open to contemporary stories along with speculative, and really looks for illustrators with a strong sense of dynamic use of panels and movement on the page.

Madelyn loves queer stories with dark twists and rich worlds, especially in fantasy and light science fiction. Her favorites include Young Adult fantasy and Adult with fantastic characters you can’t help but love.
Madelyn is looking for one main component in all her submissions: fun. She wants fun books full of magic and whimsy and a bit of comedy. She loves when books make her laugh out loud. But she also wants to be hiding behind her hands reading something spooky. Madelyn is looking for a strong voice and commercial stories with a lyrical edge. She desires a fast-paced plot with solid, beautiful writing she can sink her teeth into.
The quickest way to her heart is character. Characters with in-depth, emotional character arcs will take her through almost any book. She wants books with layers that keep her guessing until the last page, and masterfully-handled social or political commentary (in all genres, but especially horror and fantasy) that make her sit back and think about it for days.
