There is a Free Palestine.
Somewhere in the loops of time,
are lands like ours without our kind,
there, in an early summer breeze,
children with airbrushed knees,
stand in a free Palestine.
Somewhere beyond bombs, drones and death,
sounds too often heard of by those we left.
But in this world, another world, we haven't torched and wrecked,
millions play, laugh and smile,
in their home, their Palestine,
on their land that is just fine.
From river to sea,
it always was and will be.
In this land beyond our time and space,
in this place where Palestinians can love and rest,
there had been no foreign coloniser,
in Union Jack boots,
no foreign coloniser wearing religious zealot suits.
Living as one, they all of whatever faith or not,
celebrate kinship and share a holy plot,
fought, sure, human like us,
but no walls, no segregated rules,
no terror-ble thirst for their murder, rape and abuse,
against their children, babies, the unborn,
contempt for humanity,
a bitter-fuelled noose.
In this place,
nestled in a different time,
with God's grace,
Palestine's children are free of being born a crime,
from being classed as an inhuman race,
a people who did nothing but “be” in the same space.
Here, they are not the “evil Arabs” or the “Muslim threat”,
they are rightfully embedded,
in their land of the heavens.
They are safe, happy and free.
They are joyful, creative,
suffering no great need.
They watch from windows the stretches of land,
they greet neighbours and cycle,
they take opposing political stands.
They argue over the rising price of goods,
they gather for weddings and share good news.
They make love and suffer jealousies,
yearn for fame and create pretty melodies,
they invent and innovate,
heal and teach,
they stand in global parliaments to make a speech.
They grow and plant,
harvest and eat.
They share recipes and try new foods.
What is this fusion? How neat!
They travel and speak global tongues,
they visit us in iAfrika,
and sit on our cool stoep away from the sun.
In a time and place beyond our own,
Palestine is alive and well,
they can enjoy a carefree roam.
Her millions of children have little to fear,
they have no words like 'Nakba',
no words like 'genocide' ringing in their ears.
They are a free people,
on a free land.
There is no need to take a stand.
Everyone lives, loves, farts and cries,
everyone is still alive.
Somewhere, out there,
beyond this blood-soaked realm we know,
Palestine is Free, Palestine is Free!
her children are free in their home.
