After a full day exploring the ancient ruins of Troy, my wife and I continued on to Çanakkale, where we spent the night at the Kolin Hotel. Situated along the shores of the Dardanelles Strait, the hotel provided a comfortable place to recharge before a full day of sightseeing scheduled for the following day.
We arrived shortly before dinner and checked into a clean, modern room that proved to be exactly what we needed after a long day on the road. The room wasn’t overly elaborate, but it was spacious, well maintained, and comfortably furnished. The queen-sized bed provided a great night’s sleep, and everything about the hotel felt fresh and meticulously cared for.
The weather wasn’t particularly cooperative during our visit. However, we still appreciated the views from our room. The hotel overlooks beautifully landscaped grounds leading toward the Dardanelles, and even from indoors it was easy to imagine how pleasant it would be to stroll along the waterfront on a warmer day. The same attention to detail that was evident inside the hotel clearly extended to the grounds outside.
Both dinner and breakfast were included as part of our tour package. The dining experience was exceptional. Probably the best aspect of our visit. Dinner featured an extensive buffet with a wide variety of Turkish and international dishes, all presented beautifully and constantly refreshed by the attentive staff. After a full day of sightseeing, it was a relaxing way to end the evening.
Although there are shops and businesses within walking distance of the hotel, we decided to stay in for the night. Between the chilly weather (with the threat of rain hanging heavy in the air) and a full day of travel, enjoying a leisurely dinner and turning in early sounded far more appealing than venturing back out.
Breakfast the following morning was every bit as impressive as dinner. The buffet offered a generous assortment of breads, cheeses, fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, and traditional Turkish breakfast items that provided plenty of fuel for another day of exploring. Before long, we were back on the road for sightseeing en route to our next destination in Kuşadası.
Our accommodations were included as part of our tour package, so I don’t know exactly what was paid for our room. However, current rates appear to be around $150 per night, which strikes me as very reasonable. Considering the hotel’s waterfront location, comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and attentive service, it feels like an appropriate price point. It’s also currently ranked as the number two hotel in Çanakkale on TripAdvisor, a distinction that didn’t surprise me after our stay.
The Kolin Hotel exceeded my expectations. It combined comfortable accommodations, beautiful views of the Dardanelles, excellent dining, and a convenient location. The result was a stay that was both relaxing and affordable. If I ever find myself returning to Çanakkale, this would be one of the first hotels I’d consider booking again. Preferably without rain and time to leisurely explore the nearby town.
