We all want to enjoy a life that is successful, fulfilling, and happy.
However, in today’s increasingly complex and challenging world, these goals may seem harder to achieve than ever, for many.
But of course, reaching such aspirations has never come easy for anyone; these things will always have to be hard-earned.
For most of us, life tends to revolve around our work. We need to earn money, of course, but our careers will also shape who we become and, in many ways, define us too.
While ‘success’ is usually defined by how well we perform and what we can achieve throughout our lives and careers, it inevitably means different things to different people; our own definition of success will always be a very personal thing.
But whatever we may ultimately desire to enjoy in life, a simple fact remains: having a ‘successful career’ is far more likely to deliver those things to us in the end.
Some may put success, therefore, at the centre of their ambitions and strive hard to achieve it, while others will just go with the flow and hope for the best.
But given that most of us would prefer to be successful, rather than not, (naturally) what can we actually do to ensure that we achieve this?
As part of my journey while creating A Few Wise Words (the book series), I regularly spend time with ultra-high-profile individuals from diverse backgrounds who have all achieved extraordinary success in their lives. And one thing that has always struck me is how, almost without exception, they all talk about their passion for what they do.
Many have expressed that passion is not only one of the key ingredients for success, but very few will ever stand a chance of becoming truly successful in life without it.
So, what is it about passion that makes it so important?
Passion is quite simply one of the most potent sources of energy and motivation we will ever possess. We are born with it, and we all have it… But it also remains quietly dormant, deep within us, just waiting for the perfect time and conditions to arise before it’s ready to present itself.
But once we are able to reveal our passion for something, then all manner of extraordinary attributes are released for us to enjoy. And it is precisely these things that can enable anyone to achieve the most astonishing things in their lives.
So, passion is without doubt one of our most valuable internal resources. We just need to learn exactly how to reveal it and then how to use it wisely.
I have written a series of three short articles that dive more deeply into Passion. You can read them (for free) here:
Part 1: Why revealing your passion is crucial to your future success
Part 2: The three ways passion will catapult your career skyward
Part 3: How to reveal your passion; make this your Number One goal!
Have you revealed your passion for anything yet? I would love to know. It doesn’t always have to be career-related; it can be something you simply adore doing… What impact has this had on your life? Please leave your thoughts below.
I will leave you with a few words from the incomparable Sir Ben Ainslie, multiple gold-medal winning Olympic Champion:
“…My advice to any young person is that you absolutely have to find something you are passionate about. If you are not passionate about it, then it’s not right for you.
In order to be successful at something, you are going to have to work very hard at making it happen – and you’re simply not going to commit the time or the energy to something for which you lack genuine enthusiasm…”
