Where do you live? Here.

I camped just outside Glacier NP, but did not enter it. Instead, I decided to ride to Banff. I took a road that’s technically in Northern Glacier for 15 miles (route 17) that turned into route 6 in Canada. The border crossing was within the parks.

Also the night was beautiful:)

The border patrol agent asked me where do I live. I had to lie and say Los Angeles. I wanted to say ‘here, on the bike’ but I know better than be anything by boring with those folks. Alcohol, tobacco? No. Occupation? Software engineer. I wouldn’t start explaining to him that I’m looking for my calling and now unemployed and searching for my soul :)

As soon as I crossed I saw cars turning into an interesting area - Waterton park. Amazing find. A small village, and a few beautiful roads to lakes and  red river canyon.

From there I continued via some incredible back roads to Banff. Road 22 traverses fascinating valley with hills, farms and overlooking the majestic Canadian Rockies.

And no gas! As I realize that I need a gas station within 50 miles, I see that there’s non on the way. A detour will cost me an hour. But finally I did find something on the way. I switched to very conservative riding at 65 mph. My slowest ride in a road that asks for way more. Wow how it changed my trip experience. Actual day dreaming and scenery soak. Made it to the gas station with 5 miles left on my gas odometer (I’m sure I could squeeze it more but it’d be a bummer to get stuck in middle of nowhere Canada).

I met a few riders that told me the road I thought was closed is actually open and you can see wildlife. The road was out of this world. The only wildlife on the road were cows.

The weather turned cooler, saw 53, and felt it. It was dark cloudy with some drizzle all day. Ended up using Roees raincoat and it also kept me warm. A new trick. Cool.  So no camping in Banff. But Friday is packed here. I’m trying a hostel. It’d be weird experience. But a new experience nevertheless. It’s about a mile from center of town so I rode there, got a burger/beer. And will scoot back for the night.

Not sure what’s tomorrow. Lake Louise? Jasper? Mount Robson?BC roads? Hmmm.

Btw, I’ve learned not to say it but I can’t help it. I think the ride today was the most beautiful of the entire trip. All 300 miles. I only took a few pictures. This is a roadtrip that is want to do again. Canada is beautiful.

Music and mood - it’s getting old and I don’t have too many revelations so unless I have something interesting. I’ll just keep it at - it was good :)
