This was a slow pace 300 miles ride up north. From California scorching dry heat in Redding at 9am to pleasant mountain chill at 73 and back to Oregon’s mesa terrain near Bend at 85 degrees. But it’s not all about the weather. Not at all.
The point is more about the impact of the scenery on my mental state. The ride climbed up and as soon as I approached Mt. Shasta the mountainous evergreen terrain filled my heart with pleasant memories of landscape and trips I’d forgotten about. Fun filled beautiful soul nourishing moto-tripping landscapes. Although I’ve been all over this part of the country, I realized that I don’t recall ever riding this southern part of 97. And it was chill beautiful ride around the mountain and north towards Klamath Falls. With a cute stop at Weed, CA. Guess what is their big store there? Wrong. It’s not weed - it’s weed souvenir shop. Stickers, T-shirts, decals, pens, pins and more. And a busy one. For all those things one needs to advertise their true love. (I did get a sticker of course).
From there I continued for a very long lunch break at dismal Klamath Falls. They did have a cool tiny farmers market, and a tiny Main Street with a pizza place and a coffee shop. It hit the spot. Like it would any hungry Dalmatian.
Last stretch - 160 miles to meet up with Roee at Redmond, OR.Just a smooth very relaxed straight. We arrived at the motel within 5 minutes from each other, he from Seattle and I’m from Los Angeles. Isn’t that a miracle? No. Just good planning and some lucky synchronicity.
We found a good burger pub with outdoor seating and a good pitcher of IPA. What a fun hang. Except Switzerland’s loss to Argentina. I wanted the underdog to win and they almost did it. We wrapped with a slow stroll to the motel, not before closing on some good Cold Stone ice-cream desert.
I did a quick scoot on Roees bike. It is sweet and reminds me of my bike profile, and maybe more nimble. A great find by Roee as always.
Motel bed tonight. Sleeping bag in a tent tomorrow.
