In part I, I covered email, calendar, docs, phone, scheduling, meetings, CRM, website, and bookkeeping (plus a little marketing)… basically everything you’d need to run an online business—the foundational basics.

Here’s a quick snapshot:

Now we’ll get into the slightly more hotly-debated stuff… and the stuff that’s changing daily.

And the Assets Under Duress:

This quote stuck with me… we place so much focus on the 1% fee in this industry - and it’s a truly fantastic pricing model (for making money), but what about the other 99% of the money? The client’s life savings…

Well, for this, we have… well, Part II is really just Altruist:

What is Altruist really?

  1. A database of client information and accounts (the most accurate data I might add)

  2. A fantastically easy way to do all the basic things advisors managing money need to do: billing, reporting, portfolio management, RMDs, move moneys, etc.

  3. NEW!!! A bunch of AI agents

  • A meeting agent

  • A tax planning agent

  • Assuming many more category-specific agents to come

If you’re using Altruist, it kinda just makes sense to use Hazel too:

See? AI Notetaker for half the price of its competition, and now a Tax Planning Agent… do you need Holistiplan anymore?

I don’t know - some people know better than me, but it’s a foreboding future for the map as we know it.

I think entire categories could get wiped out by centralized databases with specialized agents.

I ended up taking down the LOTR-themed Kitces advisortech map and write-up (for now), but here’s a slightly updated version:

Ahh, now Financial Planning. This one is ripe for disruption.

I think because the software and outputs that have been built “for advisors” are not actually want clients want… due partially to the plans found in trash cans and the low log-in rates to portals.

Last year I picked Libretto as the coolest financial planning program around… but Libretto ain’t cheap, and I don’t know that it’ll ever get widespread adoption.

There’s no definitive right answer here. I really like what Kerdora is building:

Demo at 19:38 in the podcast below:

Kerdora can sit on top of more robust data in Monarch Money or RightCapital, but I think you could use it on it’s own as well.

Also, side note, these core systems like CRM, Financial Planning, Hazel… will have data gathering built in so we don’t need a separate tool for that.

I think data gathering should have been paired with CRM many moons ago, but we’ll have it soon.

If data gathering isn’t built into your core tech stack though, check out Flextract.

Next up, Compliance.

Last year I went with Greenboard - I liked the UI and pricing better than Hadrius. But I’ve heard great things about Hadrius as well. I think the pricing gets more competitive as users increase.

My official recommendation for 2026 is still Greenboard, sorry Hadrius:

Lastly, for part II is Estate Planning.

As we’ve moved from investment management to comprehensive financial planning to more specific planning like Tax, Estate… and beyond, I think Estate Planning has become a core part of the Ultimate tech stack.

Here’s a way to break down the category:

EncorEstate has regularly come to the top in my conversations with advisors over the past year and I appreciate the framing around a “collaborative” experience with clients - it helps to overcome the procrastination wall, it helps build relationships with the next generation, and uncover further assets as well:

For a quick demo of the platform, check out 34:10 with founder Matt Morris:

That concludes Part II of the Ultimate Stack.

In part III, I’ll go over some business analytics tools, client service calendar, email overlay, RTQ, investment analysis, some more specialized planning tools, and finally, prospecting.

My goal this year was to keep the main core stack under 10 tools though, and so here you have it:

  1. Google Workspace - email/calendar

  2. CurrentClient - phone/texting

  3. Zoom + Zoom Scheduler - video & scheduling

  4. Slant - CRM

  5. Aryze Design/Webflow - website

  6. Mercury/Puzzle - accounting

  7. Altruist/Hazel - custodian, billing, trading, AI notetaker, tax planning, etc

  8. Kerdora - financial planning/data gathering

  9. Greenboard - compliance

  10. EncorEstate Plans - estate planning

It’s not one browser tab… but we’re getting closer!

Cheers,

Joe
