I was so excited, a week earlier I’d bought one of the plants I’d had on my dream plant list for ages. A heuchera with mottled green leaves and red flower spikes.
I dutifully dug a hole in the shady border of my garden and went to lift the plant out of its pot. But the plant itself, lifted clean off the soil in the pot. Something had chewed through the roots of my brand new plant killing it. And that something was the larvae of the vine weevil.
I can’t say for sure that I’d bought the plant already infested as it had sat on my patio for a week before planting but either way I knew I didn’t want it spreading through my garden and if it happens to you, neither will you.
So here’s how to identify a vine weevil infestation and how you can treat it so your other plants don’t get munched.
