’s book "Don’t Call It Art” arrived via pre-order and I quickly devoured it!
The ideas are all a bit different but mostly the same in that you should really just try to let go of preconceived notions and make art (but don’t call it art!).
I think, personally, the best way to do this is to get an ‘okay’ sketchbook that you’re not afraid to mess up or waste because it cost you an arm and a leg, and to really just write and draw in there. Doodle. Take notes. Just make art without being critical of it.
While the book is hot pink and full of fun, what was more interesting to me is this podcast interview that Austin Kleon did with Andy J. Pizza because they got wayyyy more into the talk about creativity than the book got into.
The book is still worth having to reflect on and get inspiration from! It just simplifies the ideas that I think are super interesting so I preferred the longform version.
