Beautiful Dreamer: The Delights of Alan Rudolph

Anybody who knows me at all well has probably realised that I put enormous store by my dreams; I actively use them for all kinds of practical and impractical purposes. To such an extent, in fact, that in recent times I underwent a true crisis: after my radical prostatectomy at the end of 2023, and my newfound need to pee 4 or 5 times a night, it was my dreams that took on the task of nudging my body awake to empty my bladder – resulting in what seemed like an endless string of nightmares every time I (fitfully) slept. It felt like my unconscious – at least, the creative, dreamy, whimsical, poetic part of my unconscious – had abandoned me forever. Yikes!
