My plan was simple: hedge my family’s access to intelligence by building a local AI box on my desk. But last week, I finally did the math on rising hardware prices and exploding model sizes, and I realised it may be harder than expected. Between US export controls gating frontier models by individual passports and a brutal global scramble for scarce memory, the window for individuals to secure…

This week has been a fun (and long) one to write. Did Anthropic just pull a Three-Body Problem on the open AI ecosystem? 👽 Fable 5 is an absolute beast, proving the "AI plateau" is a myth. I think setting Claude Sonnet's default effort as "Low" is a product mistake. It may save them some tokens and lower the cost per user, but it makes their product in its default form feel dumber than it is.

It ended up longer than I planned, but I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out. The AI mood feels like it’s shifting. The “this will replace everyone tomorrow” hype is cooling off into a more grounded “okay, now how the hell do we actually make this useful?” phase. Tokenmaxxing leaderboards, massive budgets burned with little to show, codebases full of slop that people are now ripping out……

I agree. The risk of entering the VC-game is that you need to eventually offer liquidity for your investors. You either keep fundraising, go public, or make money. If you make enough money you can buy them back and you can buy some freedom. I am not saying SpaceX will be a bad investment in the long run (because I don’t know) but this IPO is definitely a trap for uneducated investors. Stay safe…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the right way to work with AI agents. Are we treating them like interns we have to constantly check on? Like contractors we brief and let run? Or even as peers in a swarm? This piece explores the spectrum of agent relationships and how shifting your approach can actually unlock way better results. If you’re deep into agents (or trying to get there), I think…
