As we witness our continued growth as a musical community, through festivals, workshops, and private study; it has become apparent the handpan as an instrument (and its corresponding style of playing) does not align with just one genre of music, but rather and endless landscape of possibilities lay before an artist.
This style of 10 finger play has been developed over centuries by hand percussionists and refined on the handpan over the last 2 decades. With the level of complexities in rhythms such as these, it became essential to notate rhythms in western musical notation to convey the exact rhythmic spacing. Corresponding fingering are above the notation, and striking with correct fingering is a crucial step to the exercise. Practice with a metronome (set to 6 beats for this exercise) for maximum results. Happy Practicing!
