ISO/IEC DIS 4213, “Performance measurement for AI classification, regression, clustering and recommendation tasks,” went to ballot on 28 July 2026 and closes 20 October 2026. This is a Draft International Standard: the text can still change before Formal Vote, and should not be cited as a current standard.
ISO/IEC TS 4213:2022 was a 33-page Technical Specification covering one thing: classification metrics.
TS status exists in ISO/IEC precisely for documents that are useful but not yet mature enough, or not yet consensus-tested enough, to carry the full weight of an International Standard. It isn’t really clear to me why classification metrics, as a well-understood topic, needed this type of deliverable, but there we are.
As an aside, there are two other key constraints with a TS: firstly, competing national standards aren’t withdrawn, and secondly, they are not recommended for referencing from European harmonised standards.
Four years later, 4213 has grown up. The DIS carries a new scope — classification, regression, clustering and recommendation tasks — and a new procedural weight as a full International Standard.
