RESPONSE

Whenever you bring people together to achieve a goal, interpersonal dynamics and office politics will inevitably arise. While some level of politics is natural and can even be beneficial, excessive political maneuvering can drain an organization’s energy and focus. Be particularly cautious of initiatives that sound politically correct but lack operational wisdom, as they can create unnecessary division and friction among employees. Address such conflicts decisively before they escalate.

Leaders should stand firm in their values and beliefs, understanding that silence can create a vacuum that may be filled by opposing forces. If you don’t take a stance, one may be chosen for you. Christian business leaders, in particular, have an opportunity to step forward and openly express their faith.

At the same time, it’s crucial to maintain focus on the organization’s core mission. Employees may never share the same level of dedication as an owner, so fostering engagement around what truly matters requires ongoing effort. While politics can be distracting and divisive, it is sometimes unavoidable—engage with wisdom and restraint.

SCRIPTURE

Luke 10:41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Romans 13:1 (KJV) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

  2. Your lawyer advises you that you can't terminate certain classes of employees for creating a toxic environment without being sued. If you don't fire them, your company culture remains toxic, and your good employees flee. What do you do?

  3. A good friend running for State Senator wants you to host a campaign event. He's conservative, Christian, and a fellow you trust. However, several union workers in your company have indicated that they will retaliate unless you invite his Democrat rival, who is a pro-abortion advocate. What do you do?

  4. Discuss how Romans 13 applies to today's political environment.
