Today’s verse of the day from YouVersion was 2 Chronicles 7:14. I read it across NKJV, NLT, and AMP for fuller context.

I’ve studied 2 Chronicles before, and like many of us, it can be tempting to skim through it. But that’s one of the quickest ways to grow resistant to God’s Word, familiarity can make us forget that Scripture is alive, speaking afresh each time we return to it.

The verse says:

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

This was God’s response to King Solomon after he dedicated the temple. “People who are called by My name” simply means God’s own people, those who identify with Him and choose to live by His ways.

But the phrase that stood out to me today was “humble themselves.” Notice how humility comes before prayer, before seeking, before turning. That order isn’t accidental. It reminded me that my posture before God matters just as much as my petitions. Before I open my mouth in prayer, my heart posture must be right. Scripture reminds us: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

So my takeaway today is this: seeking the Lord begins with humility. It’s not just about words or actions, but a surrendered heart that says, “Lord, I need You.”

I pray these words take root in your heart today, human.

Selahhh 💛
