Hi everyone,

This post wasn’t on schedule, but yesterday I saw a news on the new documentary of Jamie Oliver, I wanted only write a not on it, but soon become too long for a note so here we are.

dyslexia

I started following Jamie Oliver in 2000, that means I’m still young but not extremely young anymore, I turned on the tv in a room of an hotel in London and there was “The Naked Chef”, it was love at the first sight (love for the tv show just to be clear).

My husband still don’t understand why I follow a brit chef when in Italy we have a lot of good chefs 😂😂😂, I follow more or less everyone involved in food and in particular people with a good purpose and who take care to their community.

So I started following him and this gave me the chance to practice my eng on the blog of the website (yes there was a blog it was very interactive), and this gave me the chance to know Danny McCubbin * and I’m so lucky that now I can call him my friend.

Thanks to JO I practiced more and more my eng, I wanted to be able to talk with more people possible, I saw his tv show, I used tv series to practice the listening I watched each epsiode 3 times the first with eng sub to understand the words, the second ita subs to understand the meanings of the words and the third without sub to see if I could understand it. It’s a never ending job that I LOVE!!

I don’t know why I have less problem with eng (italian it’s my mothertongue, it shoulden’t be normal), this could conferm my theory that I was a vicking in a previous life or the theory of my sis she think in the past some of our fam was brit for sure (this because part of my fam is from Tuscany and in the past in that region there were a lot of Brit Sailors).

Yesterday I saw this: “Jamie Oliver is making a documentay on Dyslexia”, I never had the test I self diagnosticated it because it’s the only explanation for how I am.

When I was at school I hated so much being there, I felt like if I was in jail, everyone laughed when I started reading I remember the moment when I read “fagioli” instead of “figlioll” every one in the classroom started laughing so hard and one of the classmate asked me if I knew how to read, I wanted the invisibility cloak in that moment.

I struggled reading and when I read at home or when my mum read the book for me I always started sleeping.

I always felt so stupid, I was sure the only explenation was that the other kids was smart and I was simply dump.

At the end of my last yr at school a teacher told me: “u could have dyslexia” (thanks to notice it at the end of school).

My method to have normal vote not an high one, just the necessary to end the school was practicing more and more my memory, I already had a good memory luckily I started when I was young u know that period when u are young enough to go to shopping by yourself but no one see u? Every time I went in the store someone would walk past me and when I said I was in line before them, even the clerk would say he/she had never seen me and I had to wait ( I’m 1,70cm since 13yrs how is it possible not to see me 🤯), so I started memorizing the orders of the customers in line, so when they told me "I've never seen you, wait your turn" I started describing what the customers looked like and what they had ordered 😏.

Thanks that practcing more my memory was easier.

So I paid attention during the lessons and when I had a test or homework I made it without studing only remembering the lessons and it worked luckily.

Seeing that JO made a documentary on dyslexia left me surprised, I hope he will change the approce in the schools in UK for neurodiversity:

  • Autism

  • Dyspraxia

  • Intellectual developmental disorder, communication disorders and movement disorders.

  • Chronic mental illnesses: In some interpretations, these can be considered forms of neurodivergence, such as bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety and depression.

  • Intellectual disability and Down syndrome: Conditions characterized by limitations in cognitive abilities.

  • Giftedness: Characterized by exceptional talent in one or more areas.

  • Tourette's syndrome.

  • Dysorthography.

  • Dyslexia.

  • ADHC.

I have the last three.

This is an example of how kids with dyxlesia see the words, in my case it's not that accentuated.

All this neurodiversity were hidden in the past and unluckily in the major part even now, u was simply slow or dump, u wasn’t like the other kids, I always felt like if I was a laboratory error and an alien like Stitch (that’s why I love this character so much).

That’s why the new program of Jamie Oliver it’s so important right now, he will put this problem in the school under a new light, Jamie will try to find a new way for teachers to communicate with kids, plus more people will know about it and they will know the better approach with kids and maybe with themself.

SO LET’S BE READY FOR THE DYSLEXIA REVOLUTION!

If u want to see it here there is the link of the channel, I still have to see it, if u aren’t in UK I always use northVPN to see the program outside Italy.

Hope u liked this post I wrote it quickly maybe one day I will write a post on neurodiversity, but for now it’s better looking the new documentary of Jamie Oliver.

Have u ever had problem at school? And what approach u find?

If u liket it feel free to share it.
