Through Cailini Coastal, my personal Instagram @ackbeachhouse, and now this Substack, I hope the little slice of internet I hold is a positive one. One that fills your day with inspiration, positive vibes and joy. So this week, I’m sharing a few things that brought me joy.
1. A story that validated who the true people of Nantucket really are
This week, the news was filled with a lot of negative noise around Nantucket. The contentious debate had an icky undertone, and I chose to tune that noise out. Instead, this story shared by The Nantucket Current of four young camp counselors who helped save a woman and her cats from a house fire on-island, is where I chose to focus my reading. We happen to know one of the young heroes well, and she is truly remarkable. It’s a beautiful reminder that behind this week’s frivolous Nantucket headlines is a wonderful community of extraordinary people quietly living their lives and looking out for one another. Stories like this reflect the Nantucket I know and love!
2. This striped sofa
We’re gearing up for Cailini Coastal’s fall photo shoot next week, and this striped sofa just arrived. I am obsessed. I’m a coastal-loving girl through and through — shells, stripes, and rattan is basically my love language. So excited for this beauty to debut next month!
3. Limelight hydrangeas in full bloom
Our limelight hydrangeas finally bloomed! They’ll last beautifully through mid-October, and I love watching them slowly antique as fall comes in. Such a simple thing, but it brings me real joy.
4. A new collection, born from a Farmer’s Market find
Last summer, I met an incredibly talented artist at the Nantucket Farmers Market. Next week we’re launching a new collection from her on Cailini Coastal this Wednesday August 5th. Included several pieces inspired by the Moby Dick shell whale art I bought from her at the market last year. Discovering independent artists and bringing them into our customers’ world never gets old!
5. George warming up to Freddy
George (our 11 year old golden doodle) is finally starting to warm up to our puppy, Freddy. This is huge. He’s not exactly best friends with him yet, but there are real moments now where he seems to genuinely enjoy the company. If you’ve ever introduced a puppy to an older dog — I’d love to know what your timeline was for them to actually bond. Leave in comments…please and thank you :)
6. An incredible antique sailboat find
I scored an incredible, massive antique sailboat that I’ll be bringing back to the island. Such a fun find! I just ordered this console table for behind our sectional in the basement. I am planning to put it there.
7. A new stripe obsession: KULE
Apparently this week had a stripe theme. I discovered a great new brand, KULE — a colleague recommended it and described it as "so me," since most of what they sell is cotton and stripes. Couldn't agree more, and I was shocked I didn't already know about it. I ordered a couple of their t-shirts and this tank dress — perfect for days on Nantucket.
8. Our best friends, coming to visit
Right now we’re home in Connecticut, dreaming about being back on-island daily, especially because when we return, some of our best friends in the world will be visiting. Let the countdown begin!
I hope this week brought some joy into your own world!
Warmly from the coast,
Meg
