We have two exciting workshops coming up in August, both at Bracken Ridge Library.
The first is about the many ways we can contribute to efforts to increase shade and biodiversity in our homes and suburbs. The second is about Substack - what it is beyond this email, and how we use it to share and connect.

Wherever you live, the stormwater from your garden ends up in the creeks and beyond.
Verge gardens are the very public, connecting space between private gardens and the largely hidden-from-view bushcare sites. They are a place where people connect with each other and with nature.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the connections for nature and the connections within communities:
how individuals and community groups can all work together around the activities of caring for our local environment
how you can participate with an activity that suits your skills and interests, and fits into your life and other commitments
how we can all be part of something bigger

Discussion, Q&A, and demonstration about how we use the Internet for communication, advocacy, and building our networks.
As the Internet evolves, social media like Facebook and Instagram is becoming less effective at reaching a wide audience. Many of our members don’t use it.
In 2024, our group moved to using Substack as our main communication platform. Substack is much more than an email list.
We will have a presentation showing how it works on the big screen, and Q&A. Bring your phones. Bring laptops as well if you have your own internet connection. (BCC Library WIFI may be available.)

For the first time in eight years, the Albanese government has opened up public consultation on Woodside’s controversial Browse Gas Project. This is our chance to tell the government that Browse’s climate impacts should be assessed, and that the climate and environmental impacts of this project are unacceptable.
