Back in March of 2008, a woman found the head of a wild boar in her driveway.
Police reassured her it wasn’t suspicious.
The woman lived on the Sand Point Road in Bar Harbor. She arrived at her home around noon and there was the head.
Newspaper reports have Officer Thom Tardiff saying it looked like a “recent kill.”
Since she dog sits, she thought maybe a dog had found it in the woods and dragged it into her driveway.
The only problem is that there aren’t actually any wild boars on Mount Desert Island, at least not according to biologists.
That same week Officer Tardiff responded to a report of a severed deer leg between Champlain and Dorr Mountains. It was on the well travelled Route 3.
To make it all even more interesting, in that same span of March days, Officer Tardiff went to a basement in a Barberry Lane home. The window had been broken into. Furniture was knocked over. Insulation was torn down. Then, the basement door that goes to the outside world was pushed out. The bolt that held it closed was bent. Tardiff thought it was a bear.
No bear tracks. No claw marks were found. But in a positive moment, no severed deer legs or boar heads were found either.
