Right now, we’re in Boston at PAX East, setting up our stand, hanging signs, arranging plushies, stacking pins... There’s the buzz of drills, laughter from neighboring devs, and that nervous excitement in the air.
Tomorrow, we launch our first game.
It’s hard to put into words what that means to us, especially when we think about where this all started.
Two years ago we were scribbling ideas on a whiteboard, dreaming of a project we could barely visualize.
But slowly, the chaos turned into conversations. Every little note became a whole debate in our dev chat.
“How long should the laser eyes’ range be?”
“What icon says ‘play dead’ but isn’t, you know, a skull?”
“How exactly do we animate a helicopter explosion???”
This is when everything changed:
At the time, it felt impossible. But that suggestion lit a fire.
The journey has been full of surprises—none weirder (or more fun) than the Rat King creation.
Originally, he was just a prototype. We were fascinated by the strange concept of a “rat king”, a tangle of rats stuck together. We thought: What if ours was huge, muscular, cursed? And what if, when you finally saved him, he didn’t just thank you... he unraveled into a scurry of separate little rats?
It was weird, so of course all three of us loved it 😆 And it became one of our favorite parts of the game.
This is what making a game felt like, over and over.
If you're here at PAX East, come by the booth 15111 to celebrate with us! Try the game. Say hi.
And if you’ve been with us from afar, thank you for reading about our current main quest. Every bit of encouragement, every academy candidate pet photo you sent, every bug report from the beta, helped us get here.
We’ll be sharing more dev stories soon, but for now, we’re just soaking this in.
Thank you.
We can't wait to share what we’ve made, tomorrow!
