Hello my fellow garden lovers, how are you? I’ve been really enjoying these cooler mornings, it’s nice to give the garden a long rest before the heat of the day. A few pictures of the gravel garden which leads straight on from the cottage, unlike the secret garden which is down a very long path. It’s in the gravel garden where first thing in the morning we’ll all at some point take a coffee, enjoy breakfast or just spend a quiet minute coming-to. In the evening- meals will be taken, wine had and as my clan finishes their day we all gather in the shade up at the very old marble table to put the world to rights. I have my eldest daughter moved back home so these are now loud chaotic discussions, it’s my happy place.
When people visit the garden they always rush down to the main garden and the gravel garden is often overlooked, like it’s an afterthought. It’s actually my favourite part of the whole garden. Yes the main garden has a certain wow factor, yes I’ve stuck a chandelier in the greenhouse, yes there’s a small copse at the bottom, yes it has cool outbuildings, but, it’s the tangled mess of the tiny gravel garden I love- with it’s little pond full of fish that mesmerise me for hours. Things self-set and I let them do as they please. I often say to Mr C that this is all the garden I need when we move again, he doesn’t believe me, well, maybe just a tiny bit bigger to fit a small greenhouse but that’s it.
The soil is very dry and free draining so I have lots of pots with roses and scented leaf pelargoniums- they are my two plant additions. I was at the garden centre a couple of days ago and nearly bought another rose, I had to stop myself, although once home I was kicking myself for leaving it behind- I might go back for it. Shown above is a very rare rusted red Haws watering can which I snapped up for the bargain price of £30, a quick google to find out it’s worth around £200 how insane is that! Mr C asked if I was selling it? Erm no, mine. I have a watering can addiction too, man do they come in handy when there’s a hosepipe ban. To be honest I’m a bit of a rubbish antiques dealer as I end up keeping so much. I bought a pair of gorgeous french acorn chandeliers the other day with all good intentions of putting them in the shop, where are they now? Can you guess where they are not?
So, yesterday my friend and youngest tried their hardest to get some up-to-date mug shots of me. It’s my birthday today and I used to always have a pic done on my birthday as a new profile pic but I haven’t done that in years. Now I like the one below but that was actually the impromptu phone quickie and the resolution isn’t great.
The one above I think makes me frumpy so that’s out. I don’t mind the one with the painting, I might use that on my artists insta.
It’s the one below that I’m thinking of using, I’m far more comfortable not looking at the camera. I just pull the worst Chandler face (from friends) when anyone points a camera at me, I can’t seem to help myself. I like a more natural shot and this one feels like me and the shop, so let’s go with it. I think I’ll use it on my about page on the website for A Bunch Of Wild.
