Hello my fellow garden lovers, how are you? Last week (before the heatwave) I gathered the very first full garden bouquet from the garden. I’d picked the odd stem here and there, but now the garden is full and I can create bunches and bunches. Next week I will start taking them into the shop, once it’s cooled down a little. These were left over from a workshop and I’ve put them on the outside table as I love to watch the insects hover around them.

I replace blooms as they go over and refresh the water every day. It’s important to change the water daily especially in this heat and re-trim the stems too.

I love the contrast of the soft petals against this old marble table that sits up in the gravel garden- picked up from a salvage fair many moons ago, it was an absolute bargain too. Not so easy to come by now, but I bet there are still some out there.

Shown below are a couple of my fabric designs printed onto linen, originally taken from my watercolours- I made them into a repeat pattern and have them printed digitally by a company in the UK that I’ve used for years. I have a few pieces in the shop but I’m looking at expanding the collection so I have my design head on. I first started designing fabric back in 2012, it was incredibly hard and frustrating at the time, getting colours and sizing right. However, hard work pays off!

The two designs are called Faded Roses and China Blue Roses and are printed on a linen/cotton blend. My printer recommends dry clean only but I bung them in the washing machine as I love how they look once they’ve been washed. They do shrink slightly the first time so be warned, but it’s worth it.

Inspired by my garden roses- the new designs will also include rose patterns. I’m looking forward to getting started once I’m back from my Suffolk travels.

The gallery has been closed for a few days whilst I’ve been away painting and gleaning inspiration, not forgetting staying cool. I plan on re-opening this Friday and Saturday starting at the earlier time of 9am and finishing earlier depending on how hot it is and how busy the town is. So if you’re making a special trip please come early.

Don’t forget you can follow along with my adventures in my instagram stories here.

Write soon.

Emma.
