My Top 4 Resources for Learning and Revising DSAs

The idea for this post came after I made this tweet, I thought to myself “why not make a list of all the resources I use?”, most of these are completely FREE.

Do you have an interview in 2 weeks or less than 3 months, these resources will come in handy as a refresher. I don't promote extreme sports, so please don't tell me you only want to start studying DSA a few weeks before your interview.

Let’s get to the list;

1. Meta Preparation Hub:

   I recently found this, it covers major data structures and algorithms except for graphs. The best part is, the lessons are taught by Gayle Laakmann McDowell, yes the Gayle Laakmann author of Cracking the coding interview, the lessons are short and easy to understand. 5-star rating, highly recommend it.

   

2. Google Tech Dev Guide:
   This is a very elaborate resource, it covers 4 major areas; Introduction to Computer Science, Foundations of Programming, Data structures & Algorithms, and Interview Preparation. What I like about this particular resource is its extensive list of DSA topics and the flexibility of choosing your preferred programming language.

   

3. Hackerrank Preparation Kit:
   The best resource to get cracking. It is a curated list of coding challenges from top companies, the amazing part is the 1-week, 1-month, and 3 months plan. I highly highly recommend this resource for coding stage interview preparation.

   

4. Leetcode Study Plan:
   Similar to Hackerrank preparation kit, you get a curated set of coding problems per day for 14 days for the first level, and then level 2 which lasts for 21 days. Level 3 requires you to be a premium member, it’s definitely worth paying. The difficulty of the challenges you get increases as you progress, you also get to compare your solutions to others upon submission which is very helpful in improving and optimising your future solutions. I definitely recommend spending some time reviewing other solutions.

   

   An extra resource I use for quick revision is the free lecture by Bianca Gandolfo on frontendmasters “A Practical Guide to Algorithms with JavaScript”, here is the link if you want to check it out. It’s a 4-hour course that goes through the theoretical aspect of DSAs, this is an important aspect; it’s not enough that you are able to solve the most complex problems, you should be able to explain the why, tradeoffs, benefits, complexities (time and space). Slow down cowboy, we get the point.
