Abi Awomosu · How Not To Use AI

THE #HOWNOTTOUSEAI CHALLENGE

WEEK 3 · THE SOVEREIGN VOICESteer it two ways and watch.

We are living through a cultural epidemic of snow blindness. The entire internet is passing around lists of “banned AI words”—delve, tapestry, landscape—obsessing over how to spot the machine’s watermark. We have trained our eyes to look exclusively for what we are running away from, completely blinding ourselves to where we are actually going.

And where you are going is the dead, beige center of the corporate average.

Yesterday, you took back your permission to transmit. Today, you are not going to take my word for anything. You are going to look at your own words, and you are going to see the trap with your own eyes.

Today’s session:

  • The Negation Trap — Three rewrites of your own paragraph, and why a banned-word list and a “vibe prohibition” produce the exact same text.

  • Whose Voice Arrived — What your favorite instruction words (polish, refine, professional) actually introduce, amplify, and quietly assassinate.

  • The Scribe’s Dilemma — Your paragraph passing through eleven historical gatekeepers across twelve hundred years, proving there was never a “neutral” way to write.

  • Whose Line Are You In — Sorting your writing into standardized vs. edge traditions, and finding the lineage you didn’t know you were standing in.

  • The Session Read — What you actually do across a whole human-AI writing session when nobody is watching you.

You walk out with visual proof. Notice the exact moment the machine stripped your humanity out, and notice that you were the one who asked it to.
