I had tried to sleep, could settle on nothing and fell, restless and wild on the root and branch snipping the life from the slippery shadows of night as screams from the cold leaves rose and fell hunted for the white moon even as one by one things of darkness bristling and growing settle in their place.
Although they have not come for a long while, here is a nod to the sleepless nights of restless mind and hammering heart. Thank you to Poetry Outdoors for this prompt.
