Russia welcomes India's perspective on Ukraine crisis

The issue can only be resolved through diplomatic dialogue, India said at the UN.

Russia on Friday acknowledged India's position in Ukraine's crisis, amid tensions between NATO and Moscow over the situation in eastern Europe.

The response comes a day after India told the UN Security Council that "peaceful and constructive dialogue" is a need of the hour and that any action that could escalate tensions should be avoided.

"We welcome the #India balanced, ethical and independent approach," said Russia's ambassador to India.

At a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, TS Tirumurti on February 17, 2022, called for an immediate reversal of the situation.

In Delhi, Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi also said that India supports the rapid reduction of conflict and the resolution of the situation through ongoing negotiations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) on February 16, 2022, set up a control room to provide information and assistance to the Indian people in Ukraine. In addition, the Indian embassy in Ukraine has established a 24-hour Indian aid program for a nation in eastern Europe.

Russia has deployed about 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine without sending warships into the Black Sea to test the navy, sparking concern among NATO countries about Russia's possible invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has repeatedly denied plans to invade Ukraine.
