"Winter Landscape", Gustaf Fjaestad (1905-1907)

Welcome to Re: Life 👋 !

I’m Aaryan — a junior at Stanford diving headfirst into a world of virology, philosophy, and mild sleep deprivation.

You just stumbled into the weird corner of the internet where I chronicle my life. In every post, I share three brief updates, two random lessons, and one idea to reflect on for the week.

Let’s begin.

// Autumn quarter is a wrap! After some monstrous finals, Christmas festivities, and a restful flight from SFO, I’m finally home in Sudbury.

We’re somehow halfway into winter break, but I’m glad to enjoy my last weeks with friends, family, and nostalgic Christmas movies (which really means: Home Alone 1 and 2, and nothing else).

An unfiltered view from my front yard…

// After a frantic year hunting for new viruses, I’m putting the final strokes on my phage research. With support from my lab at Stanford, I’m finishing up a manuscript on my research, currently bound for a journal in the American Society of Microbiology. Huge shoutout to my mentor (Dr. Jessica Sacher) and my PI (Dr. Paul Bollyky) for making this possible!

// Spending the rest of my hours walking, napping, and chronicling my philosophy on substack. Also flipping through some long-awaited books on my shelf: Microbe Hunters, Matilda, and The Invention of Morel (masterpiece)!

Some effortless wisdom from Cormac McCarthy:

You never know what worse luck your bad luck has saved you from.

What better time than today to smile at life?

Happy holidays,
Aaryan
