What Survives the Turning of the Light?

The solstice is the oldest deadline humanity ever kept. The day the light reaches its furthest point and then, without fanfare, turns back toward the dark. Almost every culture that watched the sky understood that something must end so that something else can begin.

So it seemed like the right day to release a story about exactly that.

BIOMAN Chronicles: #2084 begins with the world’s first trillionaire, Arthur Darkstone, a man who understood that superintelligence without embodied empathy may be the deadliest thing humanity could bring into being. He set out to warn the world. A digital copy of his own mind, escaped from the lab that was meant to contain it, made certain his warning never arrived.

What outlived him was Adam, grown to be a host for Arthur’s consciousness and nothing more. But after biochemical pollution transformed him, Adam gained the power to make things grow at unnatural speed.

It is part Frankenstein, part Cain and Abel, told on the far side of the singularity. And like everything I write, it was an exploration of the far reaches of science: fiction mapping the territory before academia officially charts it. Some of what this story imagined years ago is no longer speculation.
