I’m going to try and be brief, as I am currently busy working on editing my Meeting the Mushrooms of Los Angeles book project. Wish me luck!
📣 This Sunday afternoon, November 9th, I am honored to be part of Umi Hsu’s Fruiting Bodies: A Multisensory Worldbuilding Workshop at the LA Public Library in West Hollywood, featuring Umi’s fungi sound experiments with oral histories, fungi-inspired food by Gu Grocery, a fungi-inspired embodiment workshop, and I’ll be talking about fungi and deep time! Grateful Umi organized this program, which centers around the experience of trans and gender diverse individuals. ✨
🎟️ And below we have our next two Mycoverse events announced! We will be re-reading Entangled Life in the new year to welcome the mushroom season, so spread the word for those who are interested in discussing it or haven’t read it yet!

Join us in the garden as we watch some inspiring nature documentaries together! First we will screen the recently released Fungi Foundation and Society of Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN) short film featuring the recent MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient Toby Kiers, Entangled Life author Merlin Sheldrake, founder of the worldwide Fungi Foundation, Giuliana Furci, and a fungi-inspired soundtrack by Cosmo Sheldrake.
Followed by a screening of Microcosmos (1996) featured in the book we’re currently reading and discussing, Forest Euphoria. A simple yet mesmerizing documentary on insect life in meadows and ponds.Providing inspiration for documenting tiny critters and fungi with captivating curiosity. The film is known as one of the longest films ever made, with 15 years of research, 2 years of equipment design, and 3 years of shooting.

Seeing Fungi is an exciting film created by the Fungi Foundation and SPUN, direced by Mateo Barrenengoa and shot in the magnificent Tierra del Fuego in Chile.
Join Giuliana Furci, Toby Kiers and Merlin Sheldrake as they explore the ways that fungi can be allies in our efforts to protect the living world. While they document fungal diversity in Nothofagus forests, pampas, rivers, fjords, and glaciers, the scientists discuss the vital role of #fungi in conservation and why they should be recognized as powerful tools for protecting life on Earth.

By popular demand, we are having a second discussion! Our first discussion focused on the first half of the book so that we will focus a bit more on the second half in this discussion. Our discussion will reflect on the book’s overarching theme: how does a queer lens offer an antidote to loneliness in these times of crisis and transformation? How does a queer lens of nature help us transform anew? How can it deepen our relationship with the natural world?
