I like street photography a lot but don't go and shoot nearly often enough. Early day rush, school drop off, morning runs, work, kids bedtime, admin stuff, tidying up, it's hard to fit everything in, and it's easy to find excuses not to prep a backpack, carefully choose a camera and lens combo, decide on a location and go for a photowalk.
One week in, fresh experience with my new camera phone, the Vivo X200 Ultra, tells me that it might very well solve the issues mentioned above. Since I have it in my pocket at all times, I don't mind doing even a short 5-10min session or grab just a few snaps while commuting. I'm thereby starting a weekly photowalk project. At least that's my new aim and this substack will be where I'll post resulting photographs, alongside some videos on my youtube channel.
There are (too) many shooting modes of the Vivo´s stock camera app, but I can already tell, that for me, shooting raw is the way to go, hence the Pro mode will be where I spend most of my time.
Only the PRO mode offers to save RAW images as in the DNG file format.
Good thing is that they are saved in RAW + JPEG files, which gives you the best of both world. Clean highly editable RAWs, and processed JPEGs with the different available color styles (Zeiss is the nicest IMHO).
The RAW files are super clean and natural looking, to the point I doubt most trained eyes could tell they are taken from a phone.
Each sensor on the phone allows you to shoot photos in 2 resolutions.
Default Resolution at 12.5mp - DNG file size ~25Mb (JPEG file size ~7Mb)
High Resolution at 50mp - DNG file size ~100Mb (JPEG file size ~25Mb)
Note that the 85mm telephoto sensor offers a super high resolution of 200mp, but alas only in JPEG, via the Landscape & Night shooting mode.
