BONUS DISC #3

She’s done it once again.

“Drop Dead” is the first single from Olivia Rodrigo’s new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed.

I stayed up until midnight last night despite feeling my exhaustion in my bones, repeating to myself that I would listen to the song then sleep as if it were some sort of mantra that would keep me awake. When it finally reached midnight and I tuned in to the “Drop Dead” music video premiere I was suddenly awake.

from the “Drop Dead” music video

This scene in the video especially spoke to me, as it was exactly what I looked like watching her. Of course, I did so much less elegantly in a faded, oversized concert t-shirt and boxer shorts.

I watched and listened attentively the whole way through. Then, I went and watched the lyric video all the way through.

If you aren’t playing it on loop already, I bet you will be by summer.

This single is the first of many love songs that I predict are going to take over the summer atmosphere. You don’t need to be in love to love them, which is said from an expert on not being in love. Instead, “Drop Dead” is a fun song to scream in your car on a long drive, or it’s something to imagine you will one day relate to so wholly and happily that you’re content enjoying it on your own for now.

Any Bonus Disc subscribers know that I was worried about this album. See my last bonus article:

Turns out, my fears were unfounded just as I predicted. I can be a conscious consumer of this music without being this music.

It helps that I’m a pisces, so the lyrics simply must hold an extra special place in my heart.

Other albums coming out soon include: Noah Kahan The Great Divide, Muna Dancing on the Wall, Niall Horan Dinner Party. And don’t forget that Gracie Abrams 3 is being heavily teased, and we can likely expect some new Lana Del Rey, too.

Shoutout to Holly Humberstone’s recent album release Cruel World, and Harry Styles’ Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally.

All of these albums (minus some obvious gut-wrenchers from Noah Kahan) are going to be love albums.

Basically, this is the summer of love and “Drop Dead” is only our very first taste. Like Olivia says, “kiss me and I might drop dead,” which I’m roughly translating to “feed me more love songs and I will DROP DEAD.”
