Fact
You CAN make $100,000+ per year as a writer.
If you’re struggling to make your first $1, you may find it hard to believe, and I accept that because I was where you are now.
BUT it is 100% possible if you fully embrace what it takes to get there, you’re focused, and you’re prepared for some hard knocks along the way.
Is it easy? Not really (well, not at first).
Does it get easier? Yes, it does.
Is it for everyone? Probably not.
Am I talking from experience? Yes.
Can I prove it? Yes, of course.
In this post, I’ll help you decide if my journey is something you can model to achieve your own success, and we’ll discuss how I can help you.
I hold nothing back.
This may be the most honest and eye-opening article on the subject you've ever read!
Let’s get started with some basics.
Fishing in the Right Pond!
Let’s be clear.
There are ways to make money from your writing, and there are bad choices you make that almost guarantee that you never will.
If you plan to write a full-blown novel in the hope that you’ll be discovered and make your fortune, well, good luck with that one.
Here’s the brutal reality:
Fewer than 1% of novelists make over $100,000 a year from writing books alone. Across both traditional publishing and self-publishing, the vast majority of authors earn under $1,000 annually, with median writing incomes typically falling well below the poverty line
And, while we’re on the subject of poorly paid writing, all of the following won’t serve your $100k+ income aspirations well.
Creative writing (poetry, fiction, memoirs)
Entry-level content writing (content mills, basic blog posts)
Journalism (especially local news and lifestyle)
Academic/literary publishing
To make serious money from writing, you clearly need to be fishing in the right pond - more on that later!
