Monday, January 3th, 2022 - My brother Florian is back with some new research.
PotlatchDeltic Corporation - $PCHDear subscribers,
I wish us all health and a good year 2022.
Today, the new year has its 1st trading day on the stock exchanges. We are all very excited about the stock market year 2022 in store for us.
For you, there is today another company from the wood series; It is $PCH PotlatchDeltic Corporation. The company is headquartered in Spokane, Washington (USA).
Why PotlatchDeltic Corporation (PCH)?
I was asked what factors I think are essential for someone almost 70 years old and whose investment horizon is not now 40 years?
I am getting questions like that more and more frequently in a similar vein. So obviously, we're talking about a person who is either already retired or is about to retire.
What would be necessary to me personally, here are some points that I would find essential:
Regular cash flow
Inflation protection
an industry that has overcome crises and will still be important 30 years from now
a company that will not be an air number in the newspaper tomorrow
political or social upheavals must not threaten the existence of the plant
the most crucial point for me was the end: no total loss !!!
Let's go through the points one by one for this company.
1. Regular cash flow?
Since it is a REIT, the company is obliged to generate profits in a certain percentage. Therefore, to pay out profits in a certain percentage (here we start from the FFO or AFFO figures and not from AFFO and not Earnings to determine the payout ratio).
So here specifically. If PCH generates profits, these must be distributed to shareholders considerably. This is due to the legal form of a REIT.
As a result, in addition to a quarterly dividend, an additional special dividend in 4 US dollars was distributed. (Press release)
What is the advantage of being a shareholder?
In addition to a fixed salary/pension, one receives an additional passive income without affecting the substance. The amount of shares owned by the shareholder remains the same.
In contrast: Gold or cash would have to be attacked and, depending on the amount, will be used up one day.
2. Inflation protection
PotlatchDeltic Corporation has large landholdings. Love perishes, acres persists an old farmer's adage. All limited goods can be inflation-protected—some more, some less.
The land is more along with good inflation protection because the earth does not grow. PCH owns over 1,600,000 acres of land in Minnesota, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Arkansas.
The wood products that PCH sells are produced in the 6 company-owned mills/sawmills. Commodities, after all, are also very inflationary or cyclical.
Here it concerns the worldwide only regenerating raw material, i.e., wood. Who would like to regard the development of the wood price click on the following link. You can set the timeline to be viewed manually.
Next week I will answer the remaining questions for you, until then I wish you only the best!!!
Your Florian

Some statistics to start the year: During 2021 Bitcoin consumed 134 TWh in total, which is comparable to the electrical energy consumed by a country like Argentina. Related CO2 emissions were ~64 Mt; enough to negate the entire global net savings from deploying EVs.

Curated by the Big Investor Blog:
In the stock market, as in poker, one must only bet when the odds are heavily in your favor.
If the price is already down by discounting the worst, there is minimal downside risk; focus on the upside and take a call.
All values are relative in all aspects. For example, in a kingdom of the blind, a one-eyed man is a king.
Don’t scoff at dividends when looking at capital gains as the route through highest capital gains is often though valuation based on dividends.
Wise investors don’t buy stocks just because they are going up; they buy because the current cost will seem highly cheap in the years to come, and dividends yields of the future prices may still be 1-2% but will be hefty on the investment price.
Thanks for reading, and until next Monday,
Sebastian from 247capital
