A meandering prelude

It’s the first day of the second half of 2025 today, which places us at just about 24.5% into what, in our arbitrary system of time, we’ve come to call the twenty-first century.

About 33% of the world population today was born in 2000 or later, i.e., have lived their entire lives in this century. So for roughly a third of us, the twenty-first is the only century we’ve know. One out of three, 21st-century-native.

Less than 25% were born in 1975 or earlier, which would mean having spent more time in the previous century than this one. One out of four, 21st-century-newbies.

The remainder would have been born between 1975 and 2000, straddling both the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, but having now spent more time in the 21st than the 20th. Two out of five, 21st-century-nomadic. Temporal third culture kids. It me.

Welcome to 21 Cents, where I’ll be posting periodic updates and meandering musings as we navigate and, with luck, occasionally rollick through these times we inhabit.
