I was planning to do one of these to start September, but unfortunately recent events have made me release it now. I originally planned to end the month with a “Games of Impact” and opinion article, but on Monday (8-24), me and my family were involved in a hit-and-run car accident. While the car is banged up bad, we are okay and no one got injured. While I am annoyed with the inconveniences that it has caused, I’m more angry at the a-hole who decided to leave the scene and I hope karma comes to kick his or her ass if they aren’t caught. Because of this, I haven’t really been able to sit down, write, or even play a game. I didn’t want the week to go completely empty so I decided to get a quick newsletter update out.
A Slower August Than I Wanted
I was hoping to make August a big month for the newsletter after a higher than expected output last month. However, life is life, and things happen. Despite this, I’ve received a surprising number of new subscribers, and all I can say is thank you for all the new people. Thank you for caring enough to see what I have to say. I’m currently working on creating more links to make older articles easier to find on the homepage.
I recently finished my 1970s re-release of my old Strachey’s List series and am currently working on the 1980s portion. I’m considering doing the same for my first series, for which I haven’t released a new entry in a while - History of Video Games. I also want to bring back the Side Vault section, and I’m trying to increase my gaming output to get more reviews out.
What I’m Playing
This has been a disappointing year for me in terms of playing games. There are a lot of reasons, from personal to admittedly longer stretches of time where I get a little lazy. I am trying to turn it around, and I had a good run in June and July. My main game that I’m playing right now is Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. I have some games coming up that I’m interested in. The Blood of the Dawnwalker has slowly entered my mind sphere and increased in hype every time I see something from it. Of course, there are numerous options from AAA studios, such as Control Resonance, Grand Theft Auto VI, Final Fantasy Resonance, and Phantom Blade 0. I am definitely playing Well Dweller and keeping my options open for several indie games.
The one game I absolutely know I’m getting is Ocarina of Time Remake. I also have some games I still have my eye on despite already being released, such as Splatoon Raiders and Pragmata. I just hope my confidence in my ability to increase my output is more reality than a dream.
Spooky Season Is Here!
If you’ve followed me in the last few years, you know how much I LOVE the Halloween season. For me, I start celebrating it on the final weekend of August or the first week of September. I have a tradition that spans back to my teenage years of watching a number of horror or season-specific movies, always starting with the Vincent Price classic House on Haunted Hill. I tried giving updates and mini-reviews last year, and it didn’t go 100% the way I wanted, but I might do it again. I will talk about the movies I watched on my socials. I also want to embrace the season here in the newsletter, so I’m looking at ideas for cool articles I can write.
I also plan to play Luigi’s Mansion, which is available on NSO. It’s been a long time since I played the first game and it’s perfect for the spooky season, especially because it’s a fairly short game compared to today’s titles. So that will get a review.
Here’s to hoping to a strong final four months for the year!
