I recently started something I call “Book Streak”, where my goal is to read at least 4 books a month. Reading has always been a part of my life—since I was a kid, you could always find me at the library or at home with our bookshelves full of books.

A few months ago, I took a little detour from self-development books and dived into romance novels. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed them—but I realized my first love was self-development, and I’m so happy to be back.

Since starting Book Streak in September, I’ve read over 30 books, and today, I’m sharing some of my top recommendations that you absolutely must read. These are the ones that really stood out for me:

1. Nearly All the Men in Lagos are Mad by Damilare Kuku

I have never been so hooked on a book before—this one is pure gold. Filled with suspense, humor, and real-life lessons, it shows why “nearly all the men in Lagos are mad.” Trust me, you won’t get bored for a single page.

2. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* by Mark Manson

Every chapter of this book was a gem. It taught me a lot about self-development, enjoying my own company, and mastering the art of minding my own business. If you want a book that’s practical, honest, and sometimes brutally real—this is it.

3. Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives by Lola Shoneyin

Omg, I really enjoyed this one! Lola Shoneyin did her thing—the suspense, the drama, the lessons—it’s everything. Truly a book worth reading.

4. Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man by Steve Harvey

I won’t lie—what made me pick this up was curiosity (okay, maybe a little jealousy 🥲) about how Lori Harvey bagged all my celebrity crushes. The book explores men’s perspectives on dating and relationships, why men do what they do, and it gives some eye-opening insights into the male mind.

5. The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest

If you’re working on self-esteem or figuring yourself out, this is the book for you. It dives into self-sabotage, how to stop it, and personal growth, making it a must-read for anyone on a journey of self-development.

These 5 books left a mark on me, and I honestly think anyone can learn or enjoy something from them.

Your turn: Which book has had the biggest impact on you? Or which of these would you start with first?
