Welcome to THE WEEKENDER, your weekly dispatch full of ~Saturday spirit~! I fill you in briefly on the week, share a few Little Luxuries that make the mundane feel special and save the best for last with some Brain Food to mull over, expand your horizons, or discuss with your friends over a cappuccino. There are usually lots of links and pictures which perhaps will get clipped if you’re reading in your inbox— click here to read in browser!
Happy Saturday! I fell behind after a four day weekend in Nantucket last week and am pleased to finally be getting caught up and chatting here with you in your inbox.
Small wins from my week:
Well, starting it on Nantucket, which was the best! I had a great time.
I took a bit of a risk and published something crazy on Thursday— a trip recap that I wrote like an Elin Hilderbrand beach read, in her signature style and everything. It was a total roll of the dice and scratched a nice part of my brain. I’d love for you to read it, if you’re so brave!
There was one (1!!!) day since I got back from Nantucket where we had nice, non-rainy weather and the wildfire smoke hadn’t yet made it impossible for us to go outside (don’t get me started on the weather since I moved to Long Island, I am enraged about it at all times) and we made the most of it, playing soccer on the beach after work and eating dinner outside.
Let’s get into some fun weekend fluff, shall we?
I snuggled up with this new blanket design from Chappywrap this week and it really is the best. Somehow both summer weight and winter weight.
Last week I alerted you to this amazing skort and top set from Gap (pictured on me above in butter yellow) and I got five compliments wearing it on Nantucket on Saturday. Everyone gasped when I said it was Gap! Proceed with caution: you may get stopped on the street.
Another outfit that got amazing compliment ROI: this slinky, comfy lace-trimmed skirt and East Coast tee (secondhand here and here, NWT), both of which are oldie but goodie pieces from my closet. Who woulda thunk!
J.Crew sale is honestly pretty good! There’s a lot of sale on sale for nutso prices— I’m snagging my fave summer boxer shorts in a new color and am on the fence about this beach sweater and bucket bag.
I fell in love with the look of this madras Doen top on Nantucket— at first I couldn’t stomach the price so I was searching for similar prints, either new or vintage. I struck out, though this Ralph Lauren madras slip and this Anthro button-up caught my eye! The price was right on this Dairy Boy madras mini, but they’re out of my size, and when I finally emotionally committed to buying the Doen version, they were also sold out of my size. 🙄 If you see anything like it, let me know! (I know they do the same print in a lovely dress, but I choke at the price— I’d at least get more year around wear out of a top.) I think a madras done well is sooooo classic.
One of my favorite art discoveries of the week, pictured above: Flaming June by Frederic Leighton (1895).
I’ve started an interesting journaling practice this year, though I haven’t been the best at consistency (what’s new)— I shared a bit more about it and the book I’m using, which has journaling prompts from some brilliant authors!
There’s a “5 things that are worth it” trend going around social media, I’m told— I wrote my own version (22 things that are, unfortunately, worth it) a few months back and it quickly became the second most popular thing I’ve ever published. Guess people love to know what’s “worth it!”
Thoroughly enjoyed the (like me, Iranian American!) creative director of Bratz walking us through the iconic outfits of the Bratz dolls… slay…
I enjoyed this refreshingly honest take from a woman who was laid off at the same time her husband quit his job— both of them now figuring out how to pursue their passions while supporting their family. I love watching people bet on happiness and I am rooting for them!!
Pleased to say after many years there is still nothing that tickles the brain like a good New Yorker cartoon.
