Welcome to THE WEEKENDER, your weekly dispatch full of ~Saturday spirit~! I fill you in briefly on the week, share a few Little Luxuries that make the mundane feel special and save the best for last with some Brain Food to mull over, expand your horizons, or discuss with your friends over a cappuccino. There are usually lots of links and pictures which perhaps will get clipped if you’re reading in your inbox— click here to read in browser!

Happy Saturday! It could be the freakish weather this year, but it feels to me like summer is just starting. (Classic me, I already have anxiety about it ending before it’s even truly begun.)

The godliest beach turkey sandwich, quality friend time on the beach, perfect lobster roll at my local joint, beach-friend-crossword-time, a crispy DC in my fave sunnies.

Small wins from my week:

  • Leaving for NANTUCKET yesterday for my yearly bestie trip!

  • I spent a lot of this week sick (ugh), but there were some silver linings: I dove into multiple great books on my Kindle and introduced my husband to a sick person comfort food he’d never had before (cinnamon sugar toast— he, understandably, loved it).

  • Losing it when Jenna Bush Hager (!!) commented to say she liked my beach read round up. (Maybe you should read it too?)

Let’s get into some fun weekend fluff, shall we?

  • Can’t stop thinking about the adorable wrap skirt my friend Becca Freeman was wearing at a book talk we went to last week— it looks like a much fancier designer piece!

  • ‘Tis the season to remind you of my favorite post-beach face mask! I swear they help with sunburns, and at 3 for $10, the price is right.

  • My favorite comfy (almost orthopedic) clogs got a penny-loafer makeover and I fear I like them more than the originals.

  • I have this cutie chocolate linen seashell skort and top set from Gap in a different color and I’m here to tell you it is excellent and versatile— and right now it’s also an extra 50% off. (It’s in my suitcase to wear this weekend in Nantucket!)

  • I’m contemplating these soft squishy boat shoes from Freda Salvador and need your opinion. I first found them in the black (via Banana Republic, of all places) and then discovered they’re on sale and stocked in vanilla leather, and different colored stripes on Freda Salvador’s site. They seem extremely comfy… what do you think? Versatile or nurse shoe?

  • From the cover image above: a new-to-me artist whose work inspired me, Elena Wuest.

  • God, I love when I stumble upon a Substack deep dive or article that scratches a highly specific itch in my brain. This post about sales influencers (meaning people who make content about their high-earning jobs in sales) delivered. What a strange microcosm of the internet… on the one hand, this makes me want to go back to the Middle Ages, on the other, this makes me want to mainline TikToks on this topic.

  • This is so cool.

  • Zucchini fritti with garlic dip and an aperol spritz sounds like an actual dream.

  • If you’ll indulge me in opining about my past life as a shopkeep a bit, I wrote a piece on the evolving landscape of sustainable products (and “swaps”) and what still feels true.

  • My weekend plans, and hopefully yours:
