A home once tied to Kate Moss, One Direction, Kelly Clarkson kinda (through American Idol) and Prince, has unfortunately fallen victim to an especially sick and twisted “landlord special”.
The Bel Air Yacht Mansion was designed by architect Glen Small in 1992. He was one of the founders of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), alongside Ray Kappe. Small designed with a focus on nature and sustainability long before “green architecture” even had a name.
Although The Yacht Mansion is an extreme version, it’s uniquely built off of the side of Mulholland in a withstanding way. It was a bachelor pad with taste, if you can believe it. Eve filmed her “Gangsta Lovin'” music video here. There was a magnitude to this space that has since been annihilated by t.v.s touching the ceiling and barn doors.
What I’m about to show you is disturbing. This is what has happened to the home that used to make over $700,000 a year on production rentals alone.
I went to an estate sale here years ago, it was a sale of panther coffee tables and lucite sculptures. Each furniture piece had movement to it, nothing was quiet. The dining chairs looked like they were phoning home. The only real sign of life was a For Dummies guide to the Internet.
It’s extremely sad to see what was. How about…the worst investment decision of all time? This was a Euphoria set waiting to happen!! For $42,042 a month via Airbnb, you can stay in what now looks like a yacht shaped urgent care.

It was an untouched 70’s home in the Flats of Beverly Hills, inspired by a Japanese hunting lodge. Someone couldn’t help themselves, and decided to paint the wood ceilings white. Plus, some severe tile floors that remind me of my cat’s vet.
You can currently rent this mismatched home for $18,500 a month. An old house in this area typically doesn’t stand a chance, we should be grateful it wasn’t demolished/hasn’t been demolished yet.
At its best Beverly Hills is an old person lunch special place to hang, at its worst it’s hell on Earth.
If a building that you believe is significant (to L.A.’s history or to a specific architectural style) seems in danger of being demolished you CAN AND SHOULD report it to the Los Angeles Conservancy and Department of City Planning. This is how I usually spend my Sunday afternoons.
