More about the Women Writers Anthology
Dr. Adrienne Christian is Writer and Fine Art Photographer. She sees “photo-graphy” -- the word derived from the Greek and translated as “writing with light” -- as an extension of her writing. Adrienne’s books include: Worn (2021, Santa Fe Writer’s Project), A Proper Lover (2017, Main Street Rag), and 12023 Woodmont Avenue (2013, Willow Books). Worn was one of The Rumpus’ Most Anticipated Books of 2021.
Her poetry, prose, and photographs have appeared, or are forthcoming, in Rattle, Prairie Schooner, Hayden’s Ferry Review, CALYX, BUST, phoebe, World Literature Today, American Life in Poetry, Today’s Black Woman, the Los Angeles Review as the Editor’s Choice, Next Avenue, and more.
She is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee. Her poem, Wedding Dress, received the 2021 Common Ground Review Poetry Award. In 2016, she was nominated for the Rita Dove International Poetry Award. And, in 2007, she won the University of Michigan’s Five Under Ten Young Alumni Award.
Adrienne is a fellow of the Cave Canem, Furious Flower, and Callaloo writing residencies. She has served as editor or jury member for literary prizes including the Lucille Clifton Poetry Prize, CantoMundo, the Penumbra Poetry and Haiku Contest, the Cave Canem Starshine and Clay Fellowship, the Cave Canem Book Prize, the Nebraska Poetry Society Poetry Award, and The Spark Awards.
Adrienne has been featured on panels by Ms. Magazine and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a PhD from the University of Nebraska.
Adrienne uses her extensive travels to inform her work. She’s traveled to all 50 US states, all seven continents, and 73 of the world’s countries. It is her dream and mission to travel to all 195 countries, collecting the stories, images, and experiences that add richness and universality to her work.
1455 is a nonprofit organization seeking to advance the appreciation of and passion for the creative arts through programs that support expression, education, and the sharing of storytelling.
