A Democracy Data Science Hack-a-thon!

We are seeking people with data analysis and visualization skills to join the 100% Democracy Data Science Hack-a-thon!

This exciting event for data students and professionals is a great opportunity to engage with interesting problems and support efforts to strengthen democracy.

Projects we will be working on include:

• Precinct Turnout Visualizations and Dashboards to support people hosting parties at the polls with accurate information about how to do more equitable outreach to new voters.

• Community Voter Turnout “Heatmaps” to support local chapters of the League of Women Voters in developing strategies to include all members of the communities they serve.

• Modeling Student Voter Registrations occurring across the ~2,000 campuses connected to the Students Learn Students Vote Coalition based on a variety of datasets measuring campus strategic capacity, registration rates, and turnout.

The 100% Democracy Data Science Hack-a-thon will be a part of the 100% Democracy Research and Design Symposium taking place from April 25 to April 29.

All data analysis and visualization specialists taking part will be asked to commit to the following actions:

1. Participate in a 30 minute introductory phone call with your community partner before April 22.

2. Participate in a 2 hour virtual work session between April 25 and April 29 to develop a minimum viable version of the data product that your community partner needs.

The 100% Democracy Data Science Hack-a-thon leadership team will take responsibility for ensuring that each team has clean datasets and clear project specifications to work with.
